It’s “SAPPENING” in Berkshire

It’s “SAPPENING” in Berkshire!

Start your day Saturday, March 25 with a Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 to 11:00 at the Berkshire Fire Station.  The Berkshire Ladies Auxiliary will be serving up pancakes with sausage & eggs and real local maple syrup from SWEETREES Maple Products.  Adults: $7; ages 5-12: $5;  under 5 free.

Then, burn off your calories by joining in the First Annual Sap Run/Walk hosted by the Newark Valley Chamber of Commerce.  This is a non-competitive, 0.8 mile fun family fitness activity.   The run will be on Jewett Hill Road in Berkshire.  Check in and registration begins at 8:00 in the Berkshire Community Hall on Jewett Hill Rd behind the Fire Station and Library.  Advanced registration call: (607) 237-9477    $ 7.00 under 18 and $10 for 18 and over (Includes T-shirt, until supplies run out).

Browse the offering of 14 area vendors showcasing a variety of wares from crafts, soaps, and candles to baby gifts and pet beds.  Part of the proceeds will go to the Community Hall and part to the Berkshire Fire Department.

Also in the Community Hall, at 10:00, a group of students from Cornell University’s Design Connect team will be presenting initial designs for the Town of Berkshire’s Recreation Plan. These designs were developed from feedback gathered at the children and youth design meeting held March 4th, and include proposals for playgrounds, walking trails, improved fishing access to Owego Creek, community gardens, and more. The Design Connect team is seeking additional feedback and suggestions from the community and will incorporate these comments into the final Recreation Plan.

The Berkshire Free Library joins the fun with a variety of Family Crafts from 9 to 2 in the library.

Drive about 4 miles over the hill on Glen Road to see how maple syrup is made.  SWEETREES Maple Products will be holding an open house and demonstration the process in the sugarbush and sugarhouse from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday & Sunday.  Learn how syrup is made and try some samples of the various products.  Free family fun.  Dress for the weather!

The Berkshire Fire Station, Community Hall, and Berkshire Free Library are located on NY 38 at the intersection with Jewett Hill Rd.  SWEETREES Maple Products is located at 761 Glen Road, near the intersection with West Creek Rd.
